23rd August 2009 - Relate Software Offers KeepITsafe online backup to customers

Dublin-based online backup provider KeepITsafe has struck a partnership agreement with Relate Software that could see the Dublin firm significantly increase its client base.

Under the terms of the partnership arrangement, accountancy software providers Relate Software will offer KeepITsafe’s online backup service to its 5,000 or so accounting customers.

Darragh Canavan, KeepITsafe’s business development manager, said the deal represented ‘‘huge potential’’ for KeepITsafe, with sales figures already looking positive since the accountancy software firm began selling the data backup service last month.

KeepITsafe has used a partnership model extensively to grow its sales, and currently has a network of 130 partners across Ireland and Britain. The firm has about 60 customers in Britain through a partnership agreement with a local firm.

A further 10 per cent or so of the firm’s clients are based in the North, after it signed a similar partnership deal with Antrim company Outsource Solutions last year.

Canavan said KeepITsafe had more than 1,400 clients in total now and hoped to break the 2,000 mark by the end of this year. Clients include the Health Service Executive and Eircom. The company recently added a number of large corporate clients, including Domino’s Pizza.

Last year, the firm signed a three-year deal with Ireland’s largest recruitment firm, CPL, and earlier this year the company completed the pilot phase of a major contract to supply its backup system to over 200 credit union branches around the country.

The company plans to expand its presence in the British market in the coming months, with Canavan saying that Britain was the one of the company’s main priorities for 2010.

He said the firm planned to grow its customer base in Britain through direct sales and intended to hire a person early next year to oversee the British arm of the business.

KeepITsafe was set up in 2003 by its current managing director Eoin Blacklock and his college friend Jonathan Crowe. Both were studying computer science at Trinity College Dublin at the time. In 2005, after their graduation, the duo officially registered the firm. KeepITsafe is entirely self-funded to date and Blacklock and Crowe retain ownership. In 2007, the company generated revenues of €600,000.Last year, turnover rose to €800,000.

Canavan said the company was on target to reach turnover of €1 million this year.

The firm employs seven staff, and has backed up more than five billion files and restored more than 40 million lost files since its establishment.
